Bastrop County officials extend burn ban into November

AUSTIN (KXAN) — An extended burn ban went into effect for Bastrop County early Tuesday morning and will last until Nov. 10, according to an emergency order issued by county officials.

The county initiated the ban on Oct. 15. It originally was set to last until Oct. 27.

The order bans outdoor fires, such as burning a brush pile. Cooking in "above-ground, covered grills" is still permitted. Welding, cutting and grinding are as well, but the order notes these are always prohibited on "red flag" days.

The order repeats the county's reason for the previous order, stating the purpose is to prevent wildfires during the current dry weather conditions.
