Teen hit by car while crossing street near middle school in Kyle
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police in Kyle are investigating after a 15-year-old was hit by a car Thursday morning.
According to the Kyle Police Department, the teen was hit while escorting their younger sibling across the street. Police said both children were taken to the hospital for treatment following the incident because the younger sibling was also hurt.
At the time of the crash, KPD said a crossing guard was on duty with a stop sign displayed.
Police said the crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. in the 3300 block of Dacy Lane, which is near Chapa Middle School.
Hays CISD confirmed two of its students were injured in the incident. In a letter to parents, the district said a 10th-grader from Lehman High School was walking his 4th-grade sister to Science Hall Elementary when the incident occurred.
"Though serious, upsetting, and frightening; both students are receiving treatment and we are grateful they did not suffer life-threatening injuries," Hays CISD said.
According to police, the incident remains under investigation, and drivers were urged to stay alert, obey speed limits and follow all traffic laws.
