No. 16 Westlake bounces back, blasts Del Valle 71-7
AUSTIN (KXAN) — It didn't take long for No. 16 Westlake to get back on the right track.
The Chaps thumped Del Valle 71-7 on Friday at Veterans Memorial Stadium, scoring early and often. Westlake led 51-0 at halftime.
Westlake quarterback Rees Wise threw three touchdowns in the first half before coming out of the game, and Niko Gabryluk-Melendez scored the first touchdown of his career with a 1-yard plunge for the Chaps' first score of the game.
Westlake's Bradne Riddell had two touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving, and backup quarterback Austin Knox threw a touchdown pass to Hudson Carroll in the second half.
Del Valle avoided the shutout emphatically, getting a 75-yard touchdown run from First Green. He got to the corner around the Westlake defense and then hit the jets down the sideline to run away from everybody.
Westlake (7-2, 4-1) finishes the regular season with a showdown Nov. 7 against Dripping Springs. The winner will finish as the runner-up in District 26-6A behind Lake Travis. Del Valle (1-8, 0-5) has lost eight consecutive games and will finish the year Nov. 6 against Akins.
