Kyle police mark 7th anniversary of Narcan policy
AUSTIN (KXAN) -- As the Kyle Police Department marks its seventh anniversary of its Narcan policy, the department said it has administered Narcan on 46 people since then.
"Since then, every officer has been equipped with this life-saving medication, highlighting the department's commitment to protecting community members from opioid overdoses," police said in a news release.
Police said this is an initiative that "address opioid misuse" and also implements "law enforcement strategies that prioritize the health and safety of the community.
According to Kyle PD, "the policy allows responding officers to provide immediate aid in critical situations, often bridging the gap until emergency medical services arrive."
"The Kyle Police Department encourages residents to stay informed about opioid risks and available resources," police said.
Information on how to prevent an overdose, treatment options and more are available on the Texas Health and Human Services website.
