KBVO Game of the Week: Weiss hands Anderson first loss of the season in finale 28-7

0

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Anderson's bid for an undefeated regular season was spoiled by a hungry Weiss squad Thursday night at The Pfield in Pflugerville.

The Wolves upset the eighth-ranked Trojans 28-7 behind four touchdown passes from sophomore Jaxon Schad, three of which went to his older brother Dallas Schad.

Weiss bounced back from a 35-31 loss to College Station last week. A win over the Cougars would have set up Thursday's showdown as one for a share of the District 12-5A1 championship, but the Wolves stubbed their toe. They didn't on Thursday, however.

Up 21-7 with less than five minutes left in the game, Weiss iced the ballgame with a 79-yard pass from Jaxon Schad to Tre Moore. It was the only touchdown for the Wolves not scored by two Schads.

The Jaxon-Dallas connection accounted for the others. The first came early in the second quarter on an 8-yard pass, and the second was just before the halftime horn. Jaxon had to escape a collapsing pocket, and after he squirted away from the Anderson pass rush, he zipped a 19-yard pass toward the end zone that Dallas jumped up to snag. Weiss led 14-0 at halftime.

The duo found each other again with 7:40 left in the game. Jaxon laid a ball up near the front left corner of the end zone, and Dallas ran underneath it with a sliding grab, dragging his toe behind him to make it a legal catch. The 18-yard score was set up by perhaps the most exciting play of the night, a 58-yard run by Elijah Jasper that had the look of a negative play when it began.

Jasper broke four Anderson tackles just to make it beyond the line of scrimmage, and then he rumbled down the sideline for a huge play to set up the Wolves' final touchdown of the game.

Weiss (8-2, 5-2) finished fourth in the district and will take on La Porte, the District 11-5A1 champion, in the bi-district round of the playoffs. A date and time for the game have yet to be announced.

Anderson (9-1, 7-1) will, at worst, share the district title with A&M Consolidated. The Tigers play Lockhart on Friday.

It's the second time in school history the Trojans have won at least a share of the district championship. They'll have the top seed out of the district to the bi-district round, and they'll play Friendswood at 3 p.m. Saturday at House Park.
