Curoso Table
The Curoso Table is a minimalist table by the Antwerp-based designer and maker, Elias Van Orshaegen. Handcrafted from cast, deformed, and polished aluminum, the piece is a part of Van Orshagen’s Curoso series, an exploration of the material’s capacity for movement and distortion.
Formed from thirty-two individually sand-cast aluminum tiles, each component is carefully polished and joined to create a seamless, circular tabletop. Through an unconventional casting process, the aluminum takes on a subtle “wavy” form, its rippled surface producing a dynamic interplay of reflection and shadow. The result is a table that feels both fluid and solid, where the metal’s natural strength contrasts with its seemingly liquid motion.
Named after Mr. Paul Caruso, the alter ego of one of Van Orshagen’s great heroes, Jimi Hendrix, the Curoso series evokes a similar sense of rhythm and improvisation, embracing distortion and form as expression. Made entirely in-house by hand, each table embodies the designer’s tactile and intuitive approach to making.
