Dusk
Dusk is a minimalist chair by the Brussels-based design studio, Vormen, founded by visual artist Edouard Devriendt and furniture maker Leon Duyck. The piece continues the duo’s exploration of form and the material behavior of leather.
Evolving from their earlier armchair design, Gomito, Dusk was born out of a deeper understanding of leather’s natural properties. While Gomito revealed how a piece of belting leather could be shaped into supportive curves, Dusk takes this exploration further by using a simple incision to define the structure of the armchair.
Composed of a slender metal frame with four legs, the chair features a single piece of black leather that forms the backrest and armrests, held in tension to provide structural support. A cushioned seat, upholstered in an aubergine-colored textile, adds a subtle warmth and tactile contrast to the minimal frame. The result is a piece where both gesture and material are in harmonious dialogue.
“The simple act of making a cut can give such a structural impact in an object,” the designers at Vormen note. This fascination with material and the act of making lies at the heart of Dusk. Through this piece, Vormen continues to explore the intersection of function and poetry, crafting objects that are just as much about atmosphere and material expression as they are about use.
