Vigas Chair

The Vigas Chair is a minimalist chair by the Hudson Valley-based design practice Jackrabbit Studio. Designed by the studio’s founder, Brett Miller, the chair draws inspiration from the use of whole round logs, called vigas, in the construction of traditional dwellings across the Southwestern United States and parts of Mexico.

This reference is translated into a simple yet playful seat. Two solid cedar side frames, defined by their rounded profiles, are connected by simple round dowels, creating a form that feels both sturdy and unique. The use of curved, softened elements gives the chair an approachable presence, while the contrast of materials introduces visual depth. A leather sling back acts as the backrest, offering flexible support and a tactile counterpoint to the warmth of the wood. A cushioned seat completes the piece, enhancing comfort without disrupting the chair’s pared-back language.
