Sheriff: Mississippi teen intended to call bomb threat to her school, dialed Bay Area school instead
Thursday at 9:59 a.m., someone called Wilkinson School in El Granada to report a bomb on campus, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.
EL GRANADA — A 15-year-old Mississippi girl who intended to call in a bomb threat to her school instead threatened a private school located 2,100 miles away in San Mateo County, authorities said Friday.
Thursday at 9:59 a.m., someone called Wilkinson School in El Granada to report a bomb on campus, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office. By the time deputies responded to the Wilkinson School, located at 750 Avenue Alhambra, the staff and the students – the school is kindergarten through 8th grade – had evacuated and parents were being called to pick up their children.
Deputies searched the campus and did not find any explosive devices.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office investigated the threat and traced the phone call to a female student who attends Wilkinson County High School in Woodville, Mississippi. The sheriff’s office said the threat was not intended for that school and not the Wilkinson School in El Granada.
“The principal of the high school was notified of the incident, and the school administration will be handling the discipline of the student administratively,” the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
