This folk-rock star sure has come a long way in 10 years

Mac DeMarco has come a long way in 10 years.

Just consider that his first album, 2009’s “Heat Wave” (recorded as part of the music project Makeout Videotape), reportedly only had a 500-copy run.

In 2012, he’d release his first full-length solo album, “2,” and then followed up with “Salad Days” in 2014.

Those albums both earned much critical acclaim, ended up making it onto the shortlist for the Polaris Music Prize (awarded to the best Canadian album) and helped establish DeMarco as an important voice on the scene.

Now, there’s no doubt that the folk-pop singer-songwriter ranks as a top touring artist, one that was even popular enough to warrant a spot at Southern California’s mammoth Coachella music festival back in April.

DeMarco is back out on the road in support of his highly anticipated new album “Here Comes the Cowboy,” which follows the Top 40 success story of “This Old Dog” from 2017, and performs May 18 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco.

The Garden and Melanie Faye are also on the bill.
