Cupertino crime report for the week of May 24

Forged Prescriptions: Between 4:39 p.m. on March 30 and 7:14 p.m. on April 1, unknown suspect(s) called in and picked up two fraudulent prescriptions at the CVS Pharmacy in Target at Main Street Cupertino on Stevens Creek Boulevard.

Theft by Credit Card: Between April 9 and April 12, unknown suspect(s) used a Cupertino resident’s credit card information to fraudulently obtain goods and services for a total loss of about $862.

Embezzlement: Between April 10 and April 20, the suspect employee embezzled about $73 from Target at Main Street Cupertino on Stevens Creek Boulevard. The suspect was cited and released.

Petty Theft: Between 8:55 a.m. and 10:35 a.m. on April 10, unknown suspect(s) took a cellular phone from a backpack left unattended in a restroom at Monta Vista High School on McClellan Road for a total loss of about $300.

Theft by False Pretenses: Between April 10 and April 30, a Cupertino resident contacted unknown suspect(s) regarding an online posting for an apartment rental. The victim, who was provided numerous photos of the apartment and a lease agreement, used a mobile phone application to send money to the suspect(s), allegedly for the first and last month’s rent and security deposit, but the victim never received keys to the apartment and lost contact with the suspect(s), for a total loss of about $4,100..

Shoplifting: At 10:46 p.m. on April 14, the suspect took about $250 of store merchandise without paying from Target on Stevens Creek Boulevard at Saich Way. The suspect is known and at large, and the case will be submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for complaint review.

Possession of Controlled Substance and Drug Paraphernalia, Unlicensed Driver: At 3:36 p.m. on April 15, deputies stopped a motorist at N. Foothill Boulevard and Cupertino Road for a mechanical violation. An investigation revealed the suspect driver was in possession of Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, and was driving without a valid license. The suspect was cited and released.

Reckless Evading: At 2:23 a.m. on April 15, deputies stopped a motorist at Lawrence Expressway and Bollinger Road for traffic violations. As deputies approached the vehicle, the suspect driver drove off and recklessly evaded. The pursuit was terminated.

Reckless Evading, Resisting Arrest: At 8:46 a.m. on April 16, deputies attempted to stop a motorist at Blue Jay Drive and Homestead Road for a traffic violation, but the suspect driver did not yield and recklessly evaded. The suspect abandoned the vehicle on Highway 101, fled the scene on foot, but was ultimately apprehended in the immediate area. An investigation revealed the suspect was driving with a suspended driver’s license and had an outstanding warrant. The suspect was arrested.

Vehicle Burglary: At 2:20 p.m. on April 16, an unknown suspect broke a window of a vehicle parked in the parking garage at Cupertino Village shopping center on N. Wolfe Road. It is unknown if anything was taken from the vehicle.

Trespassing: At 9:34 p.m. on April 16, deputies responded to a trespassing call at Target in the Main Street Cupertino shopping center on Stevens Creek Boulevard. An investigation resulted in the arrest of the suspect for trespassing after previous admonishments not to return to the premises.

Commercial Burglary: At 6:27 a.m. on April 16, unknown suspect(s) entered Specialty Foods in the Bollinger Plaza shopping center on Bollinger Road by breaking the front glass door with a large rock. The suspect(s) took two cash register drawers and a safe for a total loss of about $6,400.

Possession of Stolen Property and Burglary Tools: At 2:47 p.m. on April 17, deputies stopped a motorist at Stevens Creek and De Anza boulevards for a traffic violation. An investigation revealed the vehicle’s license plate was altered, the suspect driver was driving with a suspended driver’s license, and the suspect driver and passenger were in possession of burglary tools and stolen property. The case will be submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for complaint review.

Vehicle Burglary: Between 8  p.m. and 9:25 p.m. on April 17, unknown suspect(s) broke the windows of three vehicles parked at the Pacific Rim shopping center on Bollinger Road. The vehicles were searched, but nothing was taken.

Residential Burglary: Between 7  a.m. and 3:59 p.m. on April 18, unknown suspect(s) entered a residence in the 10000 block of S. Blaney Avenue by prying the front door open and took a cellular phone and a computer.

Vehicle Burglary: Between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on April 18, unknown suspect(s) broke through a window of a vehicle parked at the Pacific Rim shopping center on Bollinger Road and took a backpack containing a laptop for a total loss of about $570.

Vehicle Burglary: Between 10:50 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. on April 18, unknown suspect(s) broke a window of a vehicle parked in the 22000 block of Cristo Rey Drive. The vehicle was searched, but nothing was taken.

Organized Retail Theft, Resisting Arrest: At 6:39 p.m. on April 18, deputies saw three suspects fleeing to a getaway vehicle from Ulta Beauty in the Homestead Square shopping center on Homestead Road after they took approximately $2,812 of store merchandise without paying. Deputies stopped the vehicle, whereupon two suspect occupants fled on foot. One was ultimately located and detained, while the other remains at large. Three suspects were arrested.

Make/Pass Fraudulent Checks: Between 8  a.m. on April 19 and 9  a.m. on April 25, unknown suspect(s) fraudulently created and passed 18 fake checks using bank account information for a business located in the 10000 block of Bandley Drive. None of the checks were successfully deposited or cashed and the victim business did not incur any financial loss.

Vehicle Burglary: Between 3  p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on April 19, unknown suspect(s) broke through a window of a vehicle parked at 99 Ranch Market in the Cupertino Village shopping center on N. Wolfe Road and took a backpack containing a checkbook and gym clothing for a total loss of about $500.

Vehicle Burglary: Between 4:56 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. on April 19, unknown suspect(s) broke through a window of a vehicle parked at Cupertino Village shopping center on N. Wolfe Road and took a bag containing a laptop for a total loss of about $1,000.

Vehicle Burglary: Between 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on April 19, unknown suspect(s) broke through a window of a vehicle parked in the retail and restaurant parking for Nineteen800 on N. Wolfe Road and took a golf bag containing golf clubs for a total loss of about $300.

Identity Theft: On April 20, a Cupertino resident received information indicating unknown suspect(s) used the victim’s personal information to open credit cards, access financial accounts and transfer money for an unknown total loss.

Resisting Arrest, Battery on Peace Officer: At 4:55 p.m. on April 20, deputies responded to a disturbance call at Cupertino Health Care on Voss Avenue where the suspect tried to attack a nurse. The suspect refused to follow deputies’ commands and became combative. The suspect, who also had an outstanding warrant, was arrested.

Vandalism: Between 11  p.m. on April 21 and 5:30 a.m. on April 22, unknown suspect(s) used a large piece of cement to break the glass front door of the 76 gas station on Homestead Road, and also pried at the front door damaging the door lock as well. The total amount of damage was about $1,000.

Shoplifting, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: At 3:40 p.m. on April 22, deputies made contact with a subject in the Homestead Square shopping center on Homestead Road and an investigation revealed the suspect took about $743 of store merchandise without paying from Safeway. Further investigation revealed the suspect was in possession of drug paraphernalia, with both offenses in violation of the suspect’s probation terms. The suspect was arrested.

Shoplifting: At 1:34 p.m. on April 22, the suspect took about $351 of store merchandise without paying from Target at Main Street Cupertino on Stevens Creek Boulevard. The suspect was cited and released.

Vehicle Burglary: Between 3:15 p.m. and 8  p.m. on April 22, unknown suspect(s) broke the windows of two vehicles parked at the Pacific Rim shopping center on Bollinger Road and took a laptop from one for a total loss of about $2,400.

Vehicle Burglary: Between 3:40 p.m. and 3:50 p.m. on April 22, unknown suspect(s) broke a window of a vehicle parked near Walgreens in the Pacific Rim shopping center on Bollinger Road. The rear seat was folded down, the vehicle searched, but nothing was taken.

Vehicle Burglary: Between 9:09 p.m. and 9:12 p.m. on April 23, unknown suspect(s) broke a window of a vehicle parked at the Pacific Rim shopping center on Bollinger Road and took a laptop for a total loss of about $1,060.

Residential Burglary: Between 9:50 a.m. and 1  p.m. on April 23, unknown suspect(s) entered a residence in the 11000 block of Murano Court by forcing open a side garage door, then entering through an unlocked door leading from the garage to the house. The suspect(s) took jewelry for a total loss of about $67,600.

Stolen Vehicle: Between 9  p.m. on April 24 and 9:45 a.m. on April 25, unknown suspect(s) entered an unlocked vehicle and used a key stored in the center console to steal a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence in the 1000 block of Pennington Lane.

Fraudulent Prescription for Controlled Substance: Between 5:40 p.m. and 7:20 p.m. on April 24, unknown suspect(s) used the victim doctor’s information to call in a fraudulent prescription to the CVS Pharmacy in Target at Main Street Cupertino on Stevens Creek Boulevard, but the prescription was not filled.

Vehicle Burglary: Between 8:25 p.m. and 9:33 p.m. on April 24, unknown suspect(s) broke through the windows of two vehicles parked at the Cupertino Village shopping center on N. Wolfe Road and took two backpacks, one containing a gift card and car keys, and the other containing clothing and school work, for a total loss of about $1,300.

Identity Theft: At 11:45 a.m. on April 24, a Cupertino resident received information indicating unknown suspect(s) used the victim’s personal information to send a mail package for an unknown total loss.

Shoplifting; At 3:53 p.m. on April 24, the suspect took $802 of store merchandise without paying from Whole Foods Market on Stevens Creek Boulevard. The suspect was cited and released.

Misappropriation of Lost Property: Between 4:50 p.m. on April 24 and 10  a.m. on April 25, unknown suspect(s) took cash from a wallet left unattended at McDonald’s on North Stelling Road for a total loss of about $1,500.

Shoplifting, Possession of Controlled Substances and Drug Paraphernalia: At 6:38 p.m. on April 26, the suspect took about $327 of store merchandise without paying from Whole Foods Market on Stevens Creek Boulevard. Further investigation revealed the suspect was in possession of heroin, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, and had four outstanding warrants. The suspect was arrested.

Vehicle Burglary: Between 6:40 p.m. and 8 p.m. on April 26, unknown suspect(s) broke the windows of 18 vehicles parked at the Bay Club, Bowlmor Cupertino, Cupertino Village and Idlewild shopping centers and took assorted property for an unknown total loss.

Residential Burglary: Between 11  a.m. and 11:05 a.m. on April 26, two unknown suspects entered a residence in the 20000 block of John Drive by breaking a rear sliding glass door and took jewelry for a total loss of about $1,130.

Possession of a Controlled Substance: At 3:01 p.m. on April 28, deputies stopped a motorist at N. De Anza and Stevens Creek Boulevards for expired registration. An investigation revealed the suspect driver was in possession of cocaine. The suspect was cited and released.

Residential Burglary: Between 6:38 p.m. and 8:55 p.m. on April 28, unknown suspect(s) entered a residence in the 1400 block of Aster Lane by breaking a sliding glass door. It is unknown if anything was taken from the residence.

Shoplifting: At 12:26 p.m. on April 28, the suspect took about $450 of store merchandise without paying from Target on Stevens Creek Boulevard at Saich Way. The suspect is unknown and at large.

Stolen Vehicle: Between 6:30 p.m. on April 28 and 5:30 p.m. on May 4, a motorcycle parked at the Hamptons Apartments on Pruneridge Avenue was stolen.

Trespassing; At 11:45 a.m. on April 29, deputies responded to a trespassing call in the 19000 block of Richwood Court. An investigation revealed the suspect was trespassing after previous admonishments not to return to the premises. The suspect is known and at large.

Shoplifting, Trespassing: At 6:22 p.m. on April 29, the suspect, who was previously admonished for trespassing at the store, took about $12 of store merchandise without paying from Target at Main Street Cupertino on Stevens Creek Boulevard. The suspect was cited and released.

Petty Theft: Between 8  a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on April 30, unknown suspect(s) entered an employee area at Marina Food on Bandley Drive and took a wallet from an unattended purse for a total loss of about $520.

Shoplifting: At 1:45 p.m. on April 30, the suspect took about $12 of store merchandise without paying from 7-Eleven on Homestead Road. The suspect is known and at large.

Theft by False Pretenses: Between noon on April 30 and 5 p.m. on May 1, unknown suspect(s) contacted a Cupertino resident by phone and claimed to represent detectives with the Sheriff’s Office, with the victim’s caller ID showing a legitimate phone number for the Sheriff’s Office. The suspect(s) convinced the victim that the victim’s financial accounts had suffered security breaches, and the victim would need to transfer the funds out of those accounts and utilize all lines of credit, placing the full value of those credit lines onto gift cards. The victim complied for a total loss of about $63,000.

Shoplifting: At 11:52 p.m. on May 1, the suspect took about $900 of store merchandise without paying from Target on Stevens Creek Boulevard at Saich Way. The suspect is unknown and at large.

nder the Influence of a Controlled Substance: At 12:15 p.m. on May 1, deputies responded to a suspicious person call in the parking lot of the Bottegas Cupertino shopping center on Stevens Creek Boulevard. An investigation revealed the suspect pedestrian was under the influence of a controlled substance, in violation of the suspect’s parole terms. The suspect was arrested.

Vehicle Burglary, Reckless Evading: At 10:38 p.m. on May 1, deputies responded to Café LaTTea on Stevens Creek Boulevard on report of a vehicle burglary that just occurred. Deputies located the suspect vehicle leaving the scene and attempted to stop the motorist, but the suspect driver recklessly evaded and the pursuit was terminated. A short time later, deputies again located the vehicle, this time driving in the area of Highway 101 and Oakland Road and again attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect driver recklessly evaded until the vehicle became disabled, whereupon the suspect driver and suspect passenger fled the scene on foot. Both suspects were ultimately located nearby and detained, and an investigation revealed both had committed multiple vehicle burglaries throughout Cupertino and neighboring cities and were in possession of numerous items of stolen property, some of which was restored to the rightful owners. Both suspects were arrested.

Residential Burglary: Between 8:45 a.m. and 1:35 p.m. on May 1, unknown suspect(s) entered a residence in the 800 block of Bette Avenue by breaking the glass insert of an exterior garage door, then entering through an unlocked door leading from the garage to the house. Nothing was taken from the residence.

Vehicle Burglary: Between 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. on May 1, unknown suspect(s) broke a window of a vehicle parked at the Loree Center on Stevens Creek Boulevard and took a backpack containing a foreign passport and a laptop for a total loss of about $680.

Residential Burglary: At 5:15 a.m. on May 2, the suspect gained access to the secured, underground parking garage of an apartment complex in the 19000 block of Pruneridge Avenue, cut a lock and took a bicycle. The suspect was later located in possession of the stolen bicycle, burglary tools and drug paraphernalia. The bicycle was returned to the victim and the suspect was arrested.

Vehicle Burglary: Between 6:30 p.m. and 8:40 p.m. on May 3, unknown suspect(s) broke the windows of two vehicles parked at the Cupertino Village shopping center on N. Wolfe Road and took electronics, including cellular phones, laptops, a tablet and wireless ear buds, for a total loss of about $11,038.

Vehicle Burglary: Between 7 p.m. and 8:18 p.m. on May 3, unknown suspect(s) broke through two windows of a vehicle parked at the Loree Center on Stevens Creek Boulevard and took four suitcases containing clothing, electronics and wallets, among other miscellaneous items, for a total loss of about $4,400.

Identity Theft: On May 3, a Cupertino resident received information indicating unknown suspect(s) used the victim’s personal information to open two phone lines and financed the phones through the victim’s already existing phone service account for an unknown total loss.

Possession of Controlled Substances and Drug Paraphernalia: At midnight on May 3, deputies stopped a motorist at Interstate 280 and N. De Anza Boulevard for a traffic violation. An investigation revealed the suspect driver was in possession of heroin, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, in violation of the suspect’s probation terms. The suspect was cited and released.

Possession/Sales of Controlled Substance: At 1:38 p.m. on May 3, deputies responded to a call from school officials at Homestead High School on Homestead Road who had two suspect students detained for possession and sales of Xanax. Both suspects were cited and released.

Vehicle Burglary, Commercial Burglary: Between 2:35 p.m. and 3:49 p.m. on May 3, the suspects broke through a window of a vehicle parked at Eaton Elementary School on Suisun Drive and took a purse containing a wallet and wireless ear buds for a total loss of about $230. The suspects then used credit cards from the victim’s wallet to make fraudulent purchases at a nearby Target, totaling about $1,328. Through follow-up investigation, the suspects were located a short time later, in possession of the victim’s credit cards, in addition to stolen mail, identification and credit cards, burglary tools, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Both suspects were arrested.

Possession of a Controlled Substance and Drug Paraphernalia: At 2:14 a.m. on May 4, deputies stopped a motorist at N. De Anza Boulevard and Valley Green Drive for a traffic violation. An investigation revealed the suspect driver was in possession of a syringe loaded with Heroin, and had four outstanding warrants. The suspect was arrested.

Commercial Burglary: Between 10:20 p.m. on May 4 and 9:53 a.m. on May 5, unknown suspect(s) entered the Quickly coffee café in The Oaks shopping center on Stevens Creek Boulevard by breaking the glass front door with a rock and took a cash box and electronics for a total loss of about $2,900.
