Feeling the heat wave? Social media reacts to Bay Area’s rising temperatures
The Bay Area is scorching! Let the complaining begin.
You know what’s worse than this oppressive early June heat wave? People complaining about it.
Hey, that’s what we do. Temperatures are expected to reach triple digits in some parts of the Bay Area on Monday, and there will be little relief over the next few days.
Karl the Fog, why have you abandoned us in our time of need?
Karl, who provides the Bay Area its natural air conditioning, usually doesn’t vacation until later in the year. But he seems to be on PTO right now and was enjoying himself a little too much as he sent a message — remotely, no doubt — to his 375,000 followers.
“I bet you miss me now,” he said.

And a follow-up tweet tells us Karl won’t be due back soon.
“Tonight’s high: 92 degrees,” Karl said. “Tonight’s low: trying to sleep in your apartment.”

Karl is a Bay Area necessity — many of our homes don’t have the other kind of air conditioning, as East Coast transplant Tom MacWright reminded us.
“being a former east coast person who laughed when sf had ‘heat waves’ who now lives in the bay area, let me add the important context: 1. there’s no air condition anywhere. 2. read #1,” MacWright wrote.

Tom, we’d laugh at you, but our energy’s been sapped.
Carly Severn decided to look on the bright side, figuratively speaking, and came up with a solution to a uniquely Bay Area irritation.
“This is a really good time to get into any competitive #ramen spots you’ve been waiting to try. No wait times!” she tweeted.

Even our furry friends are saying “Ugh!” in their own ways.
Instagram users cb_smithdahl’s — the account is shared by a mom and her two daughters — has a kitty with the right idea.
“How my cat is dealing with the heat – by snuggling up to a cool water bottle and propping her head away from a furry neck. #bayarea #weather”
Floki the Cat of Oakland was trying to find a cool spot on the floor.
“Dude, I just can’t,” Floki’s IG said. “Human don’t you control all elements in my life, it’s too f*#%ing hot! You’re fired.”
Our green friends, however, are feeling the heat and thriving in it.
“The Bay Area heatwave woke up my monstera!” tweeted Diana Tran. “Its first new leaf of the year emerged this morning.”

Sean Frazier posted a meme that exposed just how unprepared I am.
“heat wave in the bay area is just like a blizzard for the rest of the country,” Frazier tweeted. only difference is that we don’t raid the supermarket for toilet paper and milk. it’s all about the Ice Cream.”

OK, now I’m officially worried. I can take the heat, but a Bay Area-wide ice cream shortage is something to sweat about. As soon as I’m done filing this story I’m emptying out the SUV and headed out for some heat wave provisions.
Baskin-Robbins, here I come!
