San Jose community briefs for the week of June 14
Surface fixes
At the San Jose City Council’s regular meeting June 4, the council approved construction contracts for this year’s street resurfacing and microsurfacing projects. Granite Construction Company will head the resurfacing project for just over $7.6 million, and Graham Contractors, Inc. will lead the citywide microsurfacing project for nearly $8.4 million.
Make Music
The streets of San Jose will be alive with the sound of music June 21, as Make Music San Jose returns for its third year. With free events taking place at venues throughout the city, music novices and music lovers can find entertainment to celebrate the Summer Solstice.
Census grants
As the city gears up for the 2020 Census, United Way Bay Area is offering grants to nonprofits that work with communities in the Bay Area that are historically underrepresented in the count. Organizations focused on racial and economic inclusion can apply for the grant with a pitch about how to support census outreach and education to these groups. Visit uwba.org/census for information.
