Warriors coach Steve Kerr, Shaq and David West engage in cheesy exchange on Twitter
Someone dug up an old clip of Shaq, and it made everyone on NBA Twitter uncomfortable.
“Yeah, just sitting back trying to recapture, a little of the glory yeah
Well time slips away and leaves you with nothing, mister, but boring stories of …”
— “Glory Days,” Bruce Springsteen
David West has been retired from the NBA for more than a year. Shaquille O’Neal last played in George W. Bush’s second term.
Steve Kerr hung up his sneaks in 2003. But he has forged a second NBA career as a coach. A really successful coach.
On Tuesday morning, the three war horses retreated to their glory days on Twitter. It began with the Twitter account @OldTakesExposed sending Kerr a video clip, circa 2004, of Shaq extolling the virtues of coach Phil Jackson, who had just led Shaq and the Lakers to four NBA Finals in five years. It was an unprecedented achievement in the modern NBA, and O’Neal slathered it in hyperbole.
“If a coach takes a team to the Finals four out of five years,” he said in the clip, “I’ll kiss their feet on ‘Fear Factor’ with cheese on them. I will. It’ll never be done again.”
Where, how and why the person in charge of the account dug up the vintage clip isn’t known. But he or she did, tweeted it on Monday morning, and tagged Kerr.
Who, as we all know has led the Warriors to four NBA Finals in the past five seasons — and was the Suns general manager when Shaq played in Phoenix.
David West, a former Warrior under Kerr, was none too pleased with the mental image.

Kerr feigned incredulity.
Hey @SHAQ, I’m going to do us both a favor and pretend that @D_West30 didn’t send this to me this morning. pic.twitter.com/oFhpTPYjOo

Leave it to Shaq to finish at the rim:
