Contemporary Christian music artists aren’t usually found on the big mainstream pop and rock festival circuit.
Yet, there was Lauren Daigle up on the Twin Peaks stage and delighting a crowd during Day One (Friday, Aug. 9) of the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival.
Daigle’s appearance at the three-day event at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park follows her set earlier this month at the gigantic Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, further solidifying that her place as one of the biggest crossover artists that the genre has ever seen.
And she’s also one of the best. The Louisiana native is blessed with one of the most amazing voices in all of popular music and she’d put it to great use during her set at Outside Lands.
Daigle opened her 50-minute set with a powerful rendition of “Still Rolling Stones” from her chart-topping second album, “Look Up Child,” which still seems to be gaining momentum despite having been released a year ago.
Accompanied by her great band, featuring a powerful horn section as well as talented backup singers, Daigle continued through a number of other terrific offerings from the Grammy-winning “Look Up Child,” including “This Girl,” “Rescue” and the title track.
Other highlights of the set included the smash single “Trust In You,” from the 2015 debut album “How Can It Be,” and a cool cover of the Bob Marley classic “One Love.”
My only quibble with the set list was that she didn’t include anything from her incredible “Behold: A Christmas Collection” album. I know we’re still months away from the holiday season, but that album is just so good. Check out the clip of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” included below and hear for yourself.
Daigle closed her set in glorious fashion as she delivered a poignant, uplifting version of “You Say,” the blockbuster single that has fueled her crossover to the pop charts as well as to such mainstream music festivals as Outside Lands.
Outside Lands continues through Aug. 11. For more information, visit sfoutsidelands.com.
