SAN JOSE — San Jose fire crews battled a brush fire that broke out Sunday night in an area near Interstate 280 between San Jose State University and Happy Hollow Zoo.
Initial estimates placed the fire’s size at roughly two acres, according to comments from fire department crews talking on dispatch radio channels at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Sunday.
The fire was in the area of Highway 280 and McLaughlin Avenue, fire department dispatchers said.
Eyewitnesses said at least one individual was attempting to put out the fire prior to emergency crews arriving on the scene.
Multiple fire trucks were dispatched to the scene of the blaze, according to communications on emergency channels Sunday night.
By 10:48 p.m., it appeared the San Jose Fire Department had begun to gain the upper hand on the brush fire.
“We have a line all the way around it,” a fire department emergency official stated on the communications channel.
The fire department official indicated that the blaze was being contained.
“There are just a few hot spots that we need to hit,” the fire agency official stated. “Looks like it’s pretty much out.”
San Jose Fire Department public information officers didn’t immediately respond to a request for a comment about the brush fire.
