Moraga mayor calls embezzlement accusations ‘disheartening’
The Town of Moraga has issued a statement from Mayor Roger Wykle on the town website.
MORAGA — The fallout is continuing over allegations that the former Moraga Chamber of Commerce president embezzled more than $220,000 from the nonprofit philanthropic Moraga Community Foundation.
The Town of Moraga has issued a statement from Mayor Roger Wykle on the town website.
“I am saddened for the losses incurred by the Moraga Community Foundation which impact the entire Moraga community,” Wykle stated. “It is disheartening to hear that a civic leader might have betrayed the community’s trust in this fashion.”
On Sept. 6, Moraga police and federal agents served search warrants at the home and business of F. Robert Fritzky in connection with an embezzlement investigation.
The Moraga Community Foundation has accused Fritzky, who was the foundation’s treasurer, with embezzling more than $220,000 from the foundation and diverting the funds into three bank accounts controlled by him.
Fritzky has been removed from the foundation’s board of directors and has been replaced as the Moraga Chamber of Commerce’s president and board member.
The U.S. Department of Treasury is conducting the investigation, and no charges have been filed against Fritzky.
Moraga has worked with the foundation on three campaigns since the foundation’s inception, according to the town website.
In 2017, the foundation raised funds for Moraga police to purchase a video surveillance system. The receipt of those funds were audited and accounted for during Moraga’s audit, according to the website.
The foundation is raising money to upgrade the restrooms at Moraga Commons Park, but the town has not yet received any funds from the campaign, the website said.
In March 2018, Moraga and the foundation reached a memorandum of understanding with the former owner of the Rheem Theatre. The agreement considered acquisition of the Rheem Theatre by the foundation or a similar organization. The memorandum expired in March of this year and no agreement or purchase was reached.
Meanwhile, Fritzky’s profile on the Moraga Chamber of Commerce has been removed. According to the previous post, Fritzky is a graduate of Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and a 14-year resident of Moraga. His wife, former Moraga Town Council member Jeanette Fritzky, died in September 2018 a few months after being diagnosed with lung cancer.
He is the founder, president and CEO of MedMatRx and MedEngage in Moraga, which serve the pharmaceutical and health care industries.
Anyone with information about the criminal investigation or related issues is asked to contact Moraga police Chief King at 925-888-7049 or king@moraga.ca.us.
