SJSU student allegedly found with gun after making threats
Authorities say 17-year-old suspect also had ammunition and a knife
SAN JOSE – Authorities on Wednesday arrested a 17-year-old San Jose State student after he allegedly made threats on social media and was found on campus with a loaded handgun.
The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety said it was tipped off to the threats by officials at Homestead High School.
Officers went to the university and asked its police department to help find the suspect.
Campus police officers found the suspect on campus and arrested him without incident, San Jose State officials said.
The suspect was allegedly found with a loaded semi-automatic handgun, ammunition and a knife.
Officers obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s home and located an additional handgun, an Airsoft rifle, ammunition, equipment to manufacture ammunition and knives.
The suspect, who was not identified because he is a minor, was booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall on a number of charges including being a minor in possession of a handgun, possession of a firearm in a school zone and criminal threats.
