Oakland: CHP issues Sig-alert after Hwy. 24 car fire
OAKLAND — The California Highway Patrol has issued a traffic alert after a car fire blocked multiple lanes on Highway 24, authorities said Monday.
Just before 6:30 p.m., CHP officers learned of a fully engulfed vehicle in eastbound Hwy. 24 lanes at the Old Tunnel Road off-ramp just west of the Caldecott Tunnel.
The vehicle’s flames blocked the roadway’s Nos. 1 to 3 lanes and even appeared to affect traffic passing in nearby westbound lanes.
The CHP issued a Sig-alert at 6:43 p.m., advising that traffic was being diverted off the roadway. Fire crews were at the scene and put the fire out almost immediately.
There was no estimated time of reopening, and no immediate word on any injuries.
Check back for updates.
