Watch: Matt Breida’s record-breaking, eye-popping TD gives 49ers quick lead
Speed kills, especially with Matt Breida’s swiftness, as the Cleveland Browns found out rather quickly on Monday night.
The 49ers’ running back scored on a jaw-dropping 83-yard touchdown run less than two minutes into the game to give San Francisco a 7-0 lead on Monday Night Football.

On the 49ers’ first play from scrimmage, Breida took a handoff from Jimmy Garoppolo on a counter play, burst through the line and was gone. Thanks to lane-clearing blocks by fullback Kyle Juszczyk, tight end George Kittle and tackle Justin Skule, Breida was quickly through the Browns defense and sped past a safety on his way to the end zone.
Breida’s run was certainly out of the ordinary as he was clocked at 22.3 mph, which was the fastest speed by any NFL ballcarrier in the past two seasons. Surprising? Yes. Shocking? Hardly. Breida has accounted for two of the three fastest speeds recorded during that time, according to NextGenStats.

Just a few minutes later, Breida was back making life miserable for Browns defenders as he freed himself from a defender and grabbed a 5-yard touchdown pass from Garoppolo for a 14-0 lead later in the first quarter.
