Girls U19
On Oct. 19, the West Coast Warriors U19 girls soccer team continued State Cup Group play with a 2-0 shutout over Davis Legacy at home.
Heather Tarabini zipped by the Davis defenders and found Mia Mendoza, who chipped in the game’s first goal. Midfielders Caitlin Carlton, Precious Martinez and Ashleigh Ward kept the ball moving, creating several scoring opportunities.
The second half was more of the same, with West Coast forwards Caitlyn Garrison and Jessa Lyons constantly on the attack. Arianna Moore’s mid-field crosses eventually led to another score by Mendoza. The West Coast defense was anchored by Leila Ganz, Fayth Hinojosa, Holly McRitchie, Jordan Brown, Lindsey Plant and Julianne Munoz. Goalkeeper Tori Morfin had four saves in the first half and Lia Bedford recorded three in the second half to combine for the clean sheet.
West Coast is at the top of the standings for Norcal State Cup group play with one more game left. Multiple players from the Warriors ’01 team have verbally committed to play college soccer including: Mendoza (Chico State), Carlton (Chico State), Lyons (Indiana Tech), Ganz (Humboldt State), McRitchie (Masters University.) Isabel Mello (Manhattanville College, N.Y.), Jaden Hall (Cal State Fullerton), and Tarabini (Sacramento State).
Girls U16
The West Coast Soccer Wicked NPL ’04 soccer team closed out October play with a decisive 4-0 State Cup win over San Ramon FC.
Five minutes into the game, West Coast jumped out to an early lead when defender Allyson Thompson converted on a 35-yard free kick. Forward Kaya Scott and midfielder Maddie Herrera both added goals to push the lead to 3-0 by halftime.
In the second half, midfielder Mikaela Yancey found the back of the net to cap the scoring at 4-0. Solid teamwork by the defensive line of MaryJane Anzo, Thompson, Andrea Castillo and Sabrina Rogers, combined with constant ball movement from midfielders Miranda Valle, Makeila Yancey, Herrera, Alexi Ochoa and Adrianna Martins all contributed to the 4-0 win.
The victory increased the Wicked’s win-streak to eight games and also set up the next match, an NPL Champions League showdown against the Pleasanton Rage on Nov. 3.
Girls U13
Over the weekend of Oct. 19-20, the West Coast Soccer Kryptonite ’07 girls Pre NPL soccer team played two matches that resulted in a loss and a 1-1 draw. After losing to the SF Aftershocks Black on Saturday, the Kryptonite traveled to Danville and battled the Mustang Elite to a 1-1 draw.
