Re: “Top BART official apologizes for viral sandwich arrest incident” (Eastbaytimes.com, Nov. 11):

I am an East Bay resident and have been a daily BART rider since 1984. Over the past 35 years, I have relied on BART for my daily commute. Over the last five years, the commute experience has consistently degraded to the point that, as of last month, I no longer am willing to use BART and am now using the express bus service from the Transbay Terminal.

I think that because BART has chosen not to enforce policies and laws, those lawless riders continue to misuse and abuse the system and the mostly law-abiding riders take the brunt of their behavior.

I encourage BART to vigilantly enforce laws and policies on the trains and in the stations to eliminate fare cheats, panhandlers, the homeless and drug addicts.
