San Jose community briefs for the week of Sept. 4
Drive-in revue
Stages are still closed due to the coronavirus, but Children’s Musical Theater San Jose is taking its final shows of the season to the big screen on Thursday, Sept. 10. West Wind Capitol Drive-in will screen a CMT double feature, one show featuring the troupe’s older performers and one revue starring performers ages 8-14. All rehearsals and final performances for the shows were done entirely remotely.
The event starts at 7:45 p.m., and tickets can be purchased at cmtsj.org/tickets.
Neighborhood Notes
CAMBRIAN PARK>>District 9 Councilmember Pam Foley recently announced that her office has made progress on the redevelopment of Cambrian Park Plaza. The long-running project seeks to revitalize the shopping center into a vibrant community space.
Foley said developer Weingarten Realty has been receptive to her office’s input and will submit a revised redevelopment proposal very soon.
WILLOW GLEN>>Hicklebee’s Children’s Bookstore is continuing its series of virtual literary events this month with a talk by fantasy author Christopher Paolini, who penned the wildly popular young adult novel
“Eragon.” The workshop is suitable for all ages, as Paolini will discuss his first foray into adult literature, “To Sleep in a Sea of Stars,” as well as his notable success in YA.
The event is set for Thursday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $35 at www.hicklebees.com and include a copy of Paolini’s new novel.
ROSE GARDEN>>Recent Bellarmine College Preparatory graduate Aidan Inoue has earned the highest award in scouting from the Boy Scouts of America. Inoue earned his Eagle Scout rank after completing his service project, for which he built several device-charging stations for his alma mater.
Inoue has been an active member of local Troop 611 since 2013.
