Concord shooting: One dead, one hurt after freeway gunfire
A freeway shooting on State Route 4 in Concord left one person dead and one individual injured Saturday night.
CONCORD — One person was killed and a second individual was injured after a freeway shooting on State Route 4 in Concord Saturday night, the California Highway Patrol said.
The deadly shooting occurred about 6:35 p.m. Saturday, CHP officers said.
The gunshots were fired on Highway 4 just east of Port Chicago Highway, according to the CHP.
“One victim succumbed to their injuries from gunshot wounds and another victim suffered moderate injuries due to gunshot wounds,” the CHP stated in a post on the law enforcement agency’s Facebook page.
An unidentified suspect vehicle fled the scene, according to the Highway Patrol.
The victims were in a black Toyota Camry, the CHP said.
“As a result of the shooting, the victim vehicle crashed into the metal guard rail at the top of the Port Chicago offramp,” according to the Highway Patrol post.
The CHP shut down Highway 4 while detectives from the agency collected evidence and processed the crime scene.
The Golden Gate Division Special Investigations Unit of the CHP is leading the probe into the shooting.
