SAN FRANCISCO — BART says trains are not stopping at its Powell station as firefighters and system staff respond to an incident involving a train and person Monday afternoon, authorities said.
Around 3:20 p.m., firefighters responded to reports of the emergency involving a person found in the trackway, and officials quickly followed by alerting travelers to major delays in all directions. In an update at 4:08 p.m., a BART spokesman confirmed the fatality involving a person and a train.
Mutual-aid bus service was set up using Muni buses and trains, with station agents and operators providing assistance, and AC Transit buses available to East Bay-bound commuters at the Salesforce terminal at Spear and Mission streets. Train service at the system’s Embarcadero and Montgomery stations was still in effect, but encountering delays.
