OAKLAND — BART said it has no service between several East Bay stations, with trains delayed up to 20 minutes as firefighters and system staff responded to a train strike late Tuesday, authorities said.
Around 11:20 p.m., staff responded to reports of a major medical emergency involving a person near a trackway just north of the system’s MacArthur station in North Oakland.
As firefighters and paramedics staged at the station, BART staff worked to bring an electrician to the scene to safely power down rails to assist in a rescue. At 12:30 p.m., BART spokesman Jim Allison confirmed a person was struck by a train but was rescued.
No service was available between MacArthur and the system’s North Berkeley and Rockridge stations.
Although no stations were closed, riders saw significant delays in the Antioch, Berryessa, Richmond, SFO, Millbrae and Daly City directions. Service was continuing between Richmond and Ashby stations on the system’s Red and Orange lines and between Rockridge and Antioch on its Yellow lines, Allison added.
For riders between MacArthur and Ashby, parallel service was initially available on AC Transit’s No. 18 bus, as well as on the Nos. 51A and 57 buses between Rockridge and MacArthur stations.
By 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, bus service was available between Rockridge and MacArthur on AC Transit bus No. 1305, and service between MacArthur and North Berkeley was available on AC Transit buses Nos. 1518 and 1350.
