Grizzlies’ Dillon Brooks throws shade at Andre Iguodala after Warriors’ loss
At least one Grizzlies player joined his team's fanbase in being salty that Andre Iguodala didn't play for Memphis during the 2019-20 season before he was traded to the Miami Heat.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Dillon Brooks seems to still be salty Andre Iguodala didn’t play for the Grizzlies during the 2019-20 season before he was traded to the Miami Heat.
Speaking Monday night after the Grizzlies spanked the Warriors 123-95, Brooks reflected on how far the young team has come in just a few seasons while also taking a jab at Iguodala.
“We all had the vision,” Brooks told reporters after the game. “He didn’t, which is perfect. Send him back to the Warriors and let him do his thing over there.”
A chorus of boos roared through the home arena of the Grizzlies when Iguodala checked into the first quarter.
Iguodala paid no mind to the taunting. And on his first possession, he sank a corner three and subtly shrugged as he ran down to the other end of the court.
After the game, Iguodala dismissed the fans’ constant booing throughout the night.
“This is the second time playing here, I think that’s just a part of how sports and fans have become,” Iguodala said. “They’re more into the games with their emotions and feelings and obviously the narrative that can be driven especially from those that are of wealth, that control the media… I understand that a true story isn’t always going to get out there, you deal with it, you move forward.”
The Warriors offloaded Iguodala’s contract to the Grizzlies in the summer of 2019. However, the 2015 NBA Finals MVP never played a game in a Memphis uniform.
Brooks and Ja Morant seemed to take it personally that Iguodala sat out the first few months of the season as he waited to be traded. And Brooks still seems bitter, though more than three years have passed.
In February 2020, Iguodala told the Athletic that he never explicitly said he didn’t want to play for the Grizzlies.
“To me, that’s really a sad situation,” Iguodala said Monday night. “It kind of upset me but I just understand the foundations of America, that’s really how it’s been working especially [for] someone that looks like me.”
