East Bay BART service stops after ‘kink in the rail’
BART officials stopped service between the system's Pleasant Hill/Contra Costa Centre and Concord stations Tuesday evening after a kink in the rail truncated rail traffic, authorities said.
CONCORD — BART officials stopped service between the system’s Pleasant Hill/Contra Costa Centre and Concord stations Tuesday evening after a kink in the rail truncated train traffic, authorities said.
Shortly before 5:45 p.m., BART staff sent out an alert that service had stopped on its Yellow line to its Antioch station because of an equipment problem on a track.
Soon after, the problem was reported as a “kink in the rail,” BART spokesperson Chris Filippi said in a press announcement. Active trains on the line will turn back at Pleasant Hill and Concord stations for the interim, Filippi added.
BART had said its trains would be traveling at reduced speeds within the system due to warm-weather conditions, and had dealt earlier with an equipment problem on a train at Bay Fair station in San Leandro.
At 6 p.m., staff announced that service between the system’s stations would be truncated, with mutual-aid service provided by County Connection’s Nos. 11, 14 and 15 buses.
Shortly after 6:30 p.m., BART said a bus bridge was up and running between the stations on County Connection buses Nos. 929 and 930.
