UNION CITY — Three men were in county jail Wednesday after their arrests on suspicion of multiple charges including attempted murder and kidnapping in connection with a violent robbery of a man earlier this week, authorities said.
In a statement, police said officers responded around 7:45 p.m. Monday to the 2500 block of Medallion Drive for a report of a fight and a possible gunshot.
At the scene, officers learned from witnesses that two males had gotten in a scuffle with a 28-year-old man before forcing him into a vehicle’s trunk and driving away.
Officers summoned detectives, who soon learned that a victim suffering multiple injuries had turned up at a hospital. The injuries were not considered life-threatening.
That victim, identified as the 28-year-old, told police he had woken up at the bottom of a creek after being beaten unconscious before a good Samaritan found and took him to the hospital. Police also learned no firearms were involved in the incident.
After developing information with help from Fremont and Newark police resources, Union City detectives identified three suspects and a vehicle, apparently taken earlier Monday during a Fremont carjacking incident, police said.
Police arrested two men, a 38-year-old and a 22-year-old, shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday, and a 21-year-old man just before 5:40 a.m. Wednesday as suspects in the attack.
The 38-year-old and the 22-year-old were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, second-degree robbery, kidnapping, carjacking and battery with commission of serious bodily injury. The 38-year-old was held on $250,000 bail, while the 22-year-old was held without bail.
The 21-year-old was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, kidnapping and false imprisonment with violence, and was held without bail.
All three men were in Santa Rita Jail, and face arraignment Friday morning at Dublin’s East County Hall of Justice, according to an Alameda County records check Wednesday night.
