We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.
On to the nominees:
Ryka Aprameyan, Evergreen Valley basketball: Aprameyan exploded for 46 points and 10 steals in a 79-39 win at Piedmont Hills on Saturday. This outburst wasn’t that surprising, as Aprameyan is averaging 34.0 PPG so far this year and has scored at least 30 point in all but one of her six games.
Sasha Bernthal, Menlo School soccer: Bernthal had quite a week in the Firebird Classic. She scored the game-winning goal to beat Urban 3-2, and then followed that up with giving out two assists in a 2-1 Knight victory over Gunn in the semifinals.
Sofia Bowes, San Ramon Valley basketball: Bowes had 18 points, six assists and eight rebounds in a 64-50 Friday win over No. 4 Pinewood. The junior has helped the Wolves get off to a 4-1 record, which includes wins over St. Ignatius and San Marin.
Kayli Flores, Prospect basketball: The senior sharpshooter hit three of four triples in a 60-11 win over Yerba Buena on Wednesday. She followed that up with eight points in a loss to Branham.
Eva Levingston, Piedmont basketball: The Highlander senior was had a fantastic all-around game as Piedmont upset top-ranked Archbishop Mitty at the Paris Twins Classic on Saturday. Levingston put up eight points, nine rebounds, six assists, and four blocks in the 60-56 win.
Rylan Park, Monte Vista soccer: The senior attacker started her season with two goals against Vintage on Thursday. Park is one of the standouts on a team that should be among the Bay Area’s best this season.
Myah Polzin, Berkeley soccer: Polzin netted Berkeley’s only goal of a 1-1 draw vs. a great Monte Vista team. After scoring 30 times during her sophomore and junior seasons, the senior has already accumulated five goals through three games in 2022-23.
Olivia Salles, San Mateo basketball: The junior’s 17 points helped lead San Mateo to its first win of the year, a 58-26 decision over Drew-San Francisco. The Bearcats followed that up with a 68-21 victory against Gunderson. Salles also played volleyball for San Mateo.
Keisha Vitalicio, Carondelet basketball: The No. 2 team in the Bay Area News Group’s rankings downed Damien-Honolulu 69-57 in the Nike Iolani Invitational in Hawaii. Vitalicio did it all for the Cougars at the guard position, scoring 15 points, handing out eight assists and grabbing seven rebounds.
Chozen Horn Young, San Leandro basketball: The 5-6 shooting guard did a little bit of everything last week during the team’s 43-29 win over Amador Valley. Young scored 16 points, grabbed five rebounds, and made an impact defensively with four steals.
