Mike Pouncey to sign one-day contract, formally retire with Dolphins
Former Dolphins center Mike Pouncey, who reached three Pro Bowls during his time in Miami, will sign a one-day contract with the team on Thursday and formally retire as a Dolphin.
Pouncey played seven of his nine NFL seasons in Miami, earning consecutive Pro Bowl selections from 2013 to 2015. He finished his career with the Los Angeles Chargers, adding a fourth Pro Bowl in 2018.
Pouncey, a former college national champion with the Florida Gators, was a first-round draft pick of the Dolphins in 2011, selected No. 15 overall.
He spent much of the ensuing decade snapping the ball to quarterback Ryan Tannehill and was a consistent blocker in the heart of the Dolphins offensive line.
The franchise made one playoff appearance during Pouncey’s tenure with Miami — a wild-card round loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2016 postseason — but Pouncey was out injured.
Pouncey last played in the NFL with the 2019 Chargers. He remained with the team in 2020 but didn’t play and ended up on injured reserve for season-ending hip surgery.
In February 2021, Pouncey and his brother, Maurkice, who starred for the Pittsburgh Steelers, announced their retirement from the NFL together.
