SAN JOSE — The California Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances surrounding a body that was found near a busy downtown San Jose freeway interchange and a block from an elementary school.
The body was found around 9 a.m. Saturday near the 500 block of Minor Avenue, next to the interchange of Interstate 280 and Highway 87, the CHP said.
The case was turned over to the CHP because the body was on property owned by the state Department of Transportation, or Caltrans.
It appeared that the deceased person had gained access to an area beneath the interchange, according to a CHP official.
The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office was attempting to determine the cause of death. There were no apparent indications that the death occurred due to suspicious circumstances, the CHP official stated.
CHP investigators were attempting to determine if the person had been unhoused, according to the CHP.
Gardner Elementary School is a block from the site where the body was discovered.
