Redwood City man found guilty of attempted robbery
REDWOOD CITY – A 27-year-old Redwood City man has been convicted of the attempted robbery of a woman outside her work place in fall 2021, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors said jurors reached the verdict after an hour and a half of deliberations on Friday afternoon. They also found a special allegation that the defendant, Adam Michael Johnson, used a dangerous weapon in the commission of the crime to be true.
The attempted robbery was reported around 8:25 p.m., on Sept. 24, 2021, in the 1700 block of El Camino Real in Redwood City.
The victim, a 34-year-old woman, was leaving work at Yanga Enterprises when Johnson approached her and asked for money. When she said no, Johnson became aggressive and showed the handle of a knife from his sweatshirt, according to the district attorney’s office.
The victim then took out her cellphone to call police. Prosecutors said Johnson pulled out a 12-inch knife and ordered the victim not to call police. At that same moment, the victim’s husband arrived to pick her up and Johnson quickly walked away.
Redwood City police officers found Johnson nearby and arrested him. A knife was not recovered.
Johnson is set to return to court Thursday for a trial on prior convictions and on June 26 for sentencing, according to the district attorney’s office. He remains in custody on $75,000 bail.
