Arrest made in April shooting outside San Mateo bar

A 26-year-old man was grazed by a round fired at the ground.

SAN MATEO – Police on Wednesday announced an arrest in a shooting outside a San Mateo bar last month.

The shooting was reported just before 1 a.m. on April 14 in the first block of 37th Avenue.

Three men got into a fight with two others inside the bar, according to the San Mateo Police Department. A member of the first group punched a member of the second group in the face. The fight continued outside the bar and a member of the first group grabbed a gun from a car.

Police said that person fired one shot into the air and then two to three others at the ground. One of the rounds fired at the ground grazed the leg of a 26-year-old man.

The first group left in two vehicles before officers arrived at the bar, according to police.

Police identified the shooting suspect as a 25-year-old Redwood City resident and took him into custody Wednesday morning. He was booked into San Mateo County jail on charges of assault with a firearm, negligent discharge of a firearm in public, possession of a firearm by a person on probation and carrying a loaded firearm.
