Immanuel Quickley was out again.
New York’s sixth man missed Wednesday’s game because of his sprained ankle, leaving Tom Thibodeau with a shorthanded bench to tackle an elimination Game 5.
“Day to day,” Thibodeau said about Quickley. “He’s getting better.”
Quickley suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s loss in Miami, where Bam Adebayo dove for a loose ball and undercut the legs of the Knicks guard.
Before the injury, Quickley was struggling in the playoffs while averaging just nine points and shooting 24% from beyond the arc. The 23-year-old is eligible for a contract extension in the offseason, and his value, if anything, has declined after peaking in March because of a breakthrough regular season.
In 13 career playoff games, Quickley shot just 33.3% overall and 27% from beyond the arc.
Without Quickley in Game 4, Thibodeau extended starter Jalen Brunson’s minutes and inserted Miles McBride into the rotation for a four-minute cameo.
New York’s bench was outscored by Miami’s in Game 4, 32-10, largely because of Kyle Lowry’s 15 points.
