ENGLAND: Oakland residents Sean and Caroline Sorenson’s recent trip to England included a few days in Portsmouth on the southern coast. “The Historic Dockyard is home to several famous ships, including HMS Victory,” Caroline says. The 186-foot ship, which dates back to 1765, was Vice-Admiral Lord Nelson’s flagship during the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.

TRAVEL TIPS: Allow plenty of time, Caroline says. “We spent two days touring the dockyard, and could have used another day because there is so much to see. There are ships, museums and harbor boat tours — which we couldn’t do because of strong winds the days we were there.”
