Popular ABC7 TV personality announces she is leaving station and Bay Area
Popular ABC7 weekend news anchor Liz Kreutz surprised TV viewers on Sunday with the announcement that is she is leaving the station — and the Bay Area as well.
“I do have some personal news to share with all of you,” Kreutz said on-air at the end of the morning broadcast. ” This is my last day anchoring the weekend morning news at ABC 7 News.”
She dubbed the departure “bittersweet,” but didn’t give any details behind her decision other than to say that she is “leaving the Bay Area for an exciting opportunity.” She added that she looked forward to sharing more about the opportunity “very soon.”
“For now, I just want to say what an honor it has been to sit in this chair for the last 3 1/2 years,” she said. “I feel so lucky to have worked with truly some of the best, smartest journalists in the business here at ABC 7.”
She also took the time to show her gratitude to those who have helped her during her time on the job.
“Thank you to our small but mighty overnight team who work tirelessly to get this show on air every weekend,” she said. “Thank you to my husband Justin for putting up with those middle-of-the-night alarm clocks, especially when I push snooze. Happy first anniversary. I love you.
“And thanks to all of you, our loyal viewers, for welcoming me into your homes every weekend mornings — and sometimes literally into your homes, when I have been out around the Bay Area reporting stories. It has such a joy and a privilege. So, thank you.”

She’d eventually land a job at ABC News, where she spent six years covering such major events as the 2012 presidential and 2014 midterm elections, the Sandy Hook shooting, the Charleston church shooting and the 2013 election of Pope Francis for the network.
She was also ABC News’ “embedded” reporter for coverage of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, which she dubbed “an assignment of a lifetime that took me all over the country and gave me a front-row seat to one of the wildest campaigns in presidential history” (according to her bio on abc7news.com).
More recently, Kreutz was an evening anchor and reporter at ABC10 in Sacramento prior to joining ABC7.
