Saratoga Education Foundation sets date for 2nd annual 5K Fun Run
Event is a fundraiser for Saratoga school programs.
5K Fun Run and Walk
While noting that attracting more than 900 participants to its inaugural 5K Fun Run and Walk last year was no mean feat, the Saratoga Education Foundation is hoping to improve upon that number for its second annual event on Nov. 5.
This year’s 5k begins at 8:30 a.m. at Redwood Middle School, 13925 Fruitvale Ave., and loops back to the campus for post-race activities including food trucks, awards, raffles, games and a special Kids Dash for children 5 and under. All proceeds from the event benefit specialized educational programs in Saratoga Union School District like elementary makerspace and science labs, general music, physical education and middle school STEM class.
Registration is $25 for youth and $45 for adults at https://saratoga5kfunrun.itsyourrace.com. Fees include custom t-shirts and post-race refreshments.
Gun safety talk
The Sunnyvale Democratic Club’s book group is co-sponsoring a Nov. 16 presentation by author Griffin Dix, whose new book chronicles his legal battles following the accidental shooting death of his teenage son in 1994.
In “Who Killed Kenzo? The Loss of a Son and the Ongoing Battle for Gun Safety,” Dix details the multiple lawsuits he and his wife filed following their son’s death, which were all decided in favor of the gun manufacturer.
Community Interfaith Voice and the Santa Clara County chapter of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence are also co-sponsoring the event, set for 7 p.m. at Westhope Presbyterian Church, 12850 Saratoga Ave., in Saratoga.
