PG&E continues undergrounding utilities in Sunnyvale
Project on Wolfe Road expected to be completed next spring.
Utility undergrounding
While PG&E has completed a majority of the construction on a utility undergrounding project on Wolfe Road between Homestead Road and El Camino Real, work isn’t expected to be completed until spring of 2024.
Electrical services are being cut over from overhead to underground power sources. AT&T and Comcast are also performing their cable installation and service cut-over work. After the undergrounding is finished, the city’s pavement restoration work on Wolfe Road is set to begin in late spring of 2024.
Free sandbags
Free sandbags intended to help prevent flooding are available for pickup at the Sunnyvale Corporation Yard at 221 Commercial St.
Pickup times are Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Both filled and unfilled sandbags are available at no cost on a drop-in basis. There is a limit of 10 sandbags per address; additional sandbags can be made available under special circumstances.
Sandbags distributed by the city are not for resale. Residents must show a valid ID with Sunnyvale residence.
Sunnyvale eruv system
In September, an eruv system was established within Sunnyvale. An eruv is a symbolic enclosure that surrounds the Jewish community. It is constructed to allow those who observe Jewish holidays, such as the Sabbath, to have full access to their community by creating one large symbolic enclosure.
In the absence of an eruv, activities outside the home are limited. Children cannot be carried or pushed in stroller to synagogue or other family activities. People requiring wheelchairs, walkers, crutches or canes cannot use these outside their homes.
