Fatal vehicle collision closes down stretch of major East Bay roadway
The crash happened on San Pablo Avenue, and affected morning commute traffic.
SAN PABLO — A driver died early Thursday after running off a major avenue and hitting a barrier, police said.
The wreck happened on southbound San Pablo Avenue near 23rd Street about 2:20 a.m., and forced the closure of a stretch of road past 8:30 a.m., San Pablo police spokesperson Peggy Chou said.
A man was driving the car. Authorities did not identify him immediately Thursday, pending notification of relatives.
According to Chou, investigators believe the silver Toyota sedan that the man was driving veered off the road and slammed into a concrete barrier. Investigators do not know yet why he lost control.
No other information was available immediately.
