Antioch man dies after motorcyclist hits his vehicle in East Oakland, police say
OAKLAND — A man allegedly driving drunk died after a motorcyclist crashed into his vehicle Friday night in East Oakland, according to police. The motorcyclist was reportedly left critically injured on the pavement.
The collision happened at about 9:23 p.m. Friday at the intersection of 42nd Avenue and International Boulevard. The Oakland Police Department said Saturday that a 47-year-old man traveling northbound on a motorcycle through a green light collided with the driver’s side door of a 47-year-old Antioch man’s Toyota Corolla, who was traveling westbound on International Boulevard.
Police said they found the Corolla driver unresponsive. They said he allegedly had open containers of alcohol and marijuana in the vehicle. The man died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to police. Police on Saturday had not released his identity, pending notification of next of kin.
The collision ejected the motorcyclist, according to police. He was transported to a hospital and on Saturday morning was reported in critical but stable condition, police said.
Police said it appears alcohol and possibly drugs may have influenced this crash. This incident remains under investigation.
