Walnut Creek double murder suspect’s mistress arrested in alleged crime scene cover up

0

WALNUT CREEK — In the latest shocking development over a Sept. 18 double homicide, the suspect’s mistress has now been charged with breaking into the home where the brutal crimes took place in an effort to destroy evidence, court records show.

Yan Wang, 45, was charged Monday with accessory to murders allegedly committed by her boyfriend, Howard Wang, 43, court records show. Now both are in Contra Costa jail cells, with Yan Wang’s bail set at $1 million. She was arrested and booked on Monday.

Howard Wang, of Walnut Creek, was arrested after he allegedly calling 911 on the night of Sept. 18 to tell police that he’d arrived home to catch a man stabbing his wife, Linlin Guo , 41, his mother-in-law Beimin Cheng, inside their home on Kelobra Court. He claimed he fired shots at the killer, but missed. Police didn’t believe him, and by the early morning of Sept. 19, Wang was in jail facing two counts of murder.

Authorities say Wang did indeed fired a handgun in his home that night, but they believe it was all part of his attempts to cover up the killings by blaming them on a phantom intruder who wasn’t really there.

But days after the killings, authorities allege that Howard Wang directed Yan Wang back to the crime scene, where he allegedly broke in and gathered bags of evidence. A police surveillance team caught her dumping the bags in Oakland, authorities said.

Howard and Yang Wang are not married or related, and simply share a last name by coincidence, authorities said.

Yan Wang allegedly arrived at the home as police were doing their initial investigation and spoke with detectives, claiming to be a friend and colleague of Howard Wang’s, authorities said.

Howard Wang is being held without bail and is next due in court on Oct. 3, court records show. Prosecutors also have charged Wang with making criminal threats and dissuading a witness, according to court records. Those charges stem from prior incidents of domestic violence at the home, where Wang allegedly either threatened his wife or prevented her from calling 911.
