Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) boys Athlete of the Week poll.
For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.
This week, we consider performances from Dec. 29-Jan. 3.
Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Vote as many times as you’d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.
Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.
Candidates for future Athlete of the Week polls can be nominated at highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com.
We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.
We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.
On to the nominees:
Tommy Ambidge, San Ramon Valley basketball: Ambidge scored 14 points in a 63-47 win over St. Patrick-St. Vincent. SRV (7-9) will play De La Salle in its East Bay Athletic League opener on Friday.
Christian Juarez, San Leandro soccer: The senior scored the game-deciding goal in San Leandro’s 1-0 victory over Bishop O’Dowd. The Pirates are 5-1.
Nick Lee, Dublin basketball: Lee scored 26 points and grabbed four rebounds to lead a short-handed Dublin team to a 63-61 victory over Valley Christian. Dublin (12-4) will play at California in its EBAL opener on Friday.
Max Lees, Los Gatos soccer: Lees scored one goal and had an assist in a 2-0 win over Los Altos. Los Gatos is 4-1.
Lucca Maher, Burlingame basketball: The sophomore scored 26 points in a 63-49 win over San Mateo. Burlingame (8-3) will travel to Carlmont on Wednesday.
Cash McDowell, Kennedy-Fremont basketball: McDowell, a senior, had 13 points, 10 assists, seven blocks, six steals and five rebounds in a 66-46 win over Patterson. Kennedy is 8-5.
Jaden Percy, St. Francis soccer: Percy scored both of St. Francis’ goals in a 2-2 tie against Branham. St. Francis is 5-0-1.
Jordan Rice, Carlmont basketball: Rice scored 30 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, dished out five assists, had three steals and blocked two shots in a 62-53 win over Casa Grande. Carlmont is 5-5.
Elian Sevilla, Tennyson soccer: The senior knocked in two goals in a 4-2 win over Piedmont. Tennyson is 6-0-4.
Vinnie Taylor, Alhambra basketball: The senior scored 24 points to lead Alhambra to a 59-43 win over Emerald. Alhambra is 9-3.
Brennan Williams, Bellarmine basketball: Williams scored 20 points and grabbed three rebounds in a 75-63 win over Dougherty Valley. Bellarmine finished nonleague play 8-2 and will host St. Francis on Tuesday in its West Catholic Athletic League opener.
