Olentangy Orange volleyball players test positive for COVID-19
COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Four members of the Olentangy Orange High School girls varsity volleyball team have tested positive for COVID-19, according to a school spokesperson.
According to the school, the positive tests were taken sometime over the last two weeks.
The entire varsity team is in quarantine, the spokesperson said.
The positive tests are feeding into the fear some parents have about going forward with fall sports. Other parents, however, aren’t worried about it.
“Well, I’m not surprised,” said Olentangy parent David Cathers.
“I mean, it’s going to happen, right?” said Olentangy parent Ami Thomas “I mean, we’re in the middle of a pandemic.”
There’s little concert from some parents with kids in Olentangy Local schools. They said they expected to hear students would test positive for COVID-19 and point to increased testing.
“If everyone follows the guidelines in how they’re reacting to the situation, I think they’re doing everything they can to minimize the spread,” Thomas said.
The news comes the same day Gov. Mike DeWine announced fall sports and other activities will be allowed to happen with limited spectators.
“Crowds, I think, given the situation, are always a concern, but I do think that the sports are good for our kids,” Thomas said.
DeWine hopes the desire to have the season will inspire young people and student-athletes to be as careful as they can. The governor said the state will step in if cases of COVID-19 increase, but for now, will leave it up to the schools.
“I’m not overly concerned regarding the testing,” Cathers said. “You know, it’s the first I heard of kids testing positive.”
Aside for confirming the cases, a spokesperson for Olentangy Local Schools has not release a statement.
