Light early coating of snow, another storm coming New Year's Eve
Rain turned to sleet and snow (<1") overnight, creating slippery travel for a time, after we reached 50 degrees yesterday evening.
Drier air moves in from the north during the day, with high pressure building across the Great Lakes. Clouds may break in the north. Temperatures will hover in the low to mid-30s, then fall into the upper 20s New Year's Eve, with dry roads.
A warm front will lift north on New Year's Day, pushing mild air back into the state. Initially, the warming aloft will not reach the surface, resulting in a window for a brief period of freezing rain Friday morning, before temperatures rise above freezing by midday, and eventually climb back into the low 50s late.
Intensifying low pressure will track from Texas to the Ohio Valley Friday, keeping Ohio in the warm sector, with ice and snow in the cold air to the west from west-central Texas to the Upper Midwest.
Rain will linger Friday night, ending as some drizzle early Saturday, as temperatures dip back into the upper 30s/low 40s under overcast skies.
Another southern storm will develop Saturday night in the Southeast and combine with an upper-level disturbance to bring a wintry mix changing to wet snow by early Sunday, with the potential for several inches of accumulation.
Temperatures will fall back through 30s later in the weekend. Dry air will follow with some sunshine early next week.
