COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A new episode of NBC4's Emmy award-winning special, "The Conversation" aired Thursday, Jan. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
Hosted by NBC4 anchors Matt Barnes and Jennifer Bullock, the series continued to look into racial inequalities in central Ohio, focusing on changemakers in our community.
Thursday's program included an interview with the head of the Columbus chapter of the NAACP, Nana Watson, who talks about the changes she has seen over the years and the reasons she is still fighting for progress.
Religious leader Pastor Gerald Murphy, also appeared. Murphy has dedicated his life to making an impact in the community and discusses why he believes making a difference begins with being the change you want to see in the world.
The audience also met a central Ohio woman looking to improve birth outcomes for Black women — a sector of our community that has historically seen birth-related deaths and complications significantly higher than their white counterparts. Through education and the use of a health advocate known as a doula, Jatu Boikai's mOBiNurses Inc. is working to save lives one mother at a time.
Additionally, continuing the conversation about changemakers in our community, the broadcast highlighted a central Ohio program that exists to serve "as a catalyst for change." Viewers learned how Black Girl Rising Inc. uses research to improve outcomes for African American girls and turns their traumas into testimonies while reminding them of their resilience.
