Buckeye Comic-Con celebrates 30th year
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- Buckeye Comic-Con celebrated its 30th year on Sunday as the event brought together tons of comic book and pop culture fans from around Columbus.
There were over 30 vendors and 150,000 comics, toys, and more memorabilia. Some goers even cosplayed, including as the cast of Ghostbusters. Many of the comics on display are collectors' items, some dating back to the 1940s.
“I mean, some of the vendors here probably have comics from the 1930s,” said lead organizer, Jeremy Nicklaus. “I know our earliest stuff probably is the 1950s, there are a lot of vendors here that specialize in books. I can think of three or four vendors here that would probably call themselves Golden Age Dealers.”
The event had comics ranging from $5 to $8,000. Nicklaus noted this is a place where like-minded creators, artists, and writers can come together and feel a sense of community unlike any other.
“If you were a kid, and you had a friend that liked comics, it was like, 'Oh, my gosh, there's another unicorn out there in the world,'” Nicklaus said. “It's nice when you're in a room full of people that all get it. You know, we all kind of have that shared experience growing up. A lot of it is about loving this culture. We love art. We love serial storytelling. We love just collecting.”
The event also had a food truck and artists signings for customers. Organizers hope to continue adding more venders in years to come.
