Fran DeWine spends time at Ohio State Fair
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- It's no secret that Gov. Mike DeWine and First Lady Fran DeWine love to spend a lot of time at the Ohio State Fair.
On Thursday, NBC4's Kristine Varkony spent time with the first lady while she taught kids how to make pizza from scratch and took some of her grandchildren to the petting zoo.
"We always love the county fair," DeWine said. "I grew up in 4H and I learned to cook. I learned to sew by taking my 4H projects. My grandmother and my mother helped me, but that sort of got me going on 4H and just loving it. Growing up, I lived in town so I didn't have any animals, but I loved cooking and I love sewing and I love going to the fair and just having fun there."
Varkony asked DeWine what else she likes to do at the fair.
"A lot of the time I just walk around with Mike and we do a lot of the different concerts and stuff," she said. "We need to go around to buildings and see some of our departments, you know, and they like us and we like going to those and they all promote the Dolly Parton Imagination Library."
The Dolly Parton Imagination Library now has 400,000 Ohio kids enrolled who receive a free book each month. That's more than any other state.
DeWine will be reading one of those books to kids at 1 p.m. on Monday at the ODNR Park inside the fair.
Second Lady Usha Vance will also be joining her for the reading.
