Woman imprisoned for 2022 killing of husband
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A woman could spend more than a decade in prison for killing her husband nearly three years ago.
Dana Colbert, 42, was sentenced Wednesday to 7-10 1/2 years in prison after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter. As a result of the June guilty plea, charges of felonious assault and domestic violence were dropped.
According to police, Colbert repeatedly punched her husband, Harry A. Gains, 64, which eventually led to his death.
On July 4, 2022, witnesses told police they saw the couple in their home on the 2800 block of Grasmere Avenue when Colbert pushed Gaines to the ground, causing him to hit his head on the ground.
Witnesses reported another confrontation between the couple a few days later, on July 8, when Colbert allegedly punched Gaines in the face. Gaines was found unresponsive at the scene and taken to a hospital. He died on Aug. 1.
Colbert was arrested on Aug. 11, when the Franklin County coroner ruled Gaines’ death a homicide. Colbert has 785 days of jail credit on her sentence.
If she is released from prison, she will be on probation for 2-5 years.
