Columbus, Ohio area gas prices continue to climb
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Columbus area gas prices continued to rise one week after a cost surge that saw prices jump back over $3 per gallon.
According to GasBuddy’s survey of 500 stations in and around Columbus, Ohio, gas prices have risen 5.4 cents in the last week, totaling 24 cents over the previous two weeks, to average out at $3.20 per gallon. The current price is 28.9 cents higher from four weeks ago but remain 25.4 cents lower than this time one year ago.
The cheapest gas station in the Columbus area was priced at $2.78 a gallon on Sunday, while the most expensive was $3.32, a difference of $54 per gallon. In Ohio, the average price of gas also rose by 7.7 cents from $3.07 per gallon to $3.15 per gallon
Nationally, gas prices also inched higher by 1.2 cents per gallon to reach $3.11. The price of diesel dropped by a minuscule 0.1 cents, settling in at $3.71 per gallon.
GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis Patrick De Haan says that while barrel prices reached $70, causing a price increase for a second straight week, a rise in oil production and/or poor economic reports, could help reverse the current trend in the coming weeks.
“With OPEC+ now fully restoring production to 2023 levels— and fresh economic concerns arising from a weak jobs report and renewed tariff threats—oil prices may continue to face headwinds, potentially paving the way for a decline in gas prices in the weeks ahead.”
